Article Summary

Australia's finally investing in women's health, allocating $573 million. Here's what you can access now.

Starting March 1, 2025

Two popular contraceptive pills (Yaz and Yasmin) are now PBS-listed. You'll pay $126.40 annually instead of $380, or just $30.80 with a concession card.

Menopausal hormone therapies (estradiol, progesterone, and combined options) are also PBS-listed. Maximum cost: $31.60 per month or $7.70 with a concession card.

From July 1, 2025

Medicare rebates will begin for menopause health assessments, making professional consultations more accessible.

From early 2026

Concession card holders will receive free pharmacist consultations for uncomplicated UTIs (you'll only pay for medication if needed).

The reality is, it's a start, though prescription birth control is completely free in the UK, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, and the Philippines. But cheaper options are better than none.

A friendly reminder: I am sharing what I've learned, not advising what you should do. Always talk to your GP about what's right for your individual needs.
